Today someone said something to me that rubbed me the wrong way. To be honest it’s something that people have said to me many times before. and people say to each other everyday probably. But for some reason today I realized that I hate it and I think I’m going to start a protest.

I’m just giving you a hard time.

Why the fuck do people say this shit and this it’s funny?!

Oh yes. Please give me a hard time. Because that’s what I, and everyone else for that matter, need more of in their life. We need a few minutes of our day wasted. We need a few more moments where we feel misunderstood and frustrated. We need to take time where we could be smiling, laughing, thinking, and loving, and replace it with hard times.

The thing is, there are times where a taste of this can be magical. When the people who know you and love you the most, playfully point out your silliness and make you question yourself. And as you stammer, pout, and raise your voice, you melt into laughter when you realize they are just highlighting the imperfections in you that make them smile. 

But I’m not talking about those wonderful moments with those wonderful people. I’m talking about the other ones. The ones from the people who think it’s fun to be difficult. The people who like fucking with people just to fuck with people. Those are the ones I’m protesting. Even if they doing it from a place of fun rather than meanness, I will now push back. Because each day is filled with so many hard times and difficult moments, that to just throw one more in the mix, for the fun of it, is not something I’m willing to accept.
