Blanket Me | Hundred Waters

Blanket Me | Hundred Waters

There’s something really lovely about this song.

And there’s something a little unsettling about it.

The sentiment that someone can feel like a blanket rings true in so many ways.

I love the idea that some people can be the soft blanket in my bed that envelops me and makes every dream that much sweeter. Or that someone could be that warm blanket on my sofa that I entangled with as I get entangled with the a story I’m watching on TV.

But while those blankets bring me everything I’m looking for on the nights when I needed most, they can make me feel unbearably uncomfortable.

Those same blankets can bear such a weight on me that they begin feel like a burden. And at times, those blankets begin have the slightest scratchiness that slowly makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

Whenever I walk by a blanket in a home store, I’ll brush it with my hand to find out if this is the blanket I want in my home and on my skin. And even when it feels like the perfect blanket, I never buy it. Because there’s a part of me is wary of the moment that blanket will turn on me. When it changes from making me feel comforted to making me feel confined.
