Lay Down | Touch Sensitive
I don’t need to lay down for a while
When I heard those lyrics I thought “I get it. I never need to lay down. For better or for worse.”
Thursday was my goodbye drinks at work: tequila, gin, and fernet (not in that order) all before 10pm. Friday I was my last day at work: 10am client interview, 11:30am client interview, email, email, tears, email, and then I biked to SOMA to volunteer at a Black Girls Code Hackathon….where I was all day yesterday and will be all day today.
Tomorrow is my first day at my new job, And then Tuesday I fly to L.A. and Wednesday, drive to Joshua Tree.
I wish I could say this non-stop weekend (or week) was atypical. But it’s not.
This spring/summer I traveled 10 out of 15 weekends.
When I lived in L.A., I went three days with no sleep - which included three days of work, an impromptu hollywood rave, and a work holiday party.
When I was in high school, I told my dorm wing-mates I had a quiet side. They laughed and scoffed “what when you sleep?” To which my roommate, Lauren, responded, “I’ve never seen her sleep.”
When I was a toddler, my mom bought one of those harness/leash contraptions for “active” children. But she had to stop using it because it made her arm sore.
So when I heard I “I don’t need to lay down for a while” I spoke to me.
But….
…then I listened again
Why don’t we lay down for a while.
Oh.
Well.
That’s a whole other song.
And it speaks to me too.
But in a whole other way.
And that’s a whole other post.
