When I first heard the lyrics of this Julietta song, I loved them. But it’s in Sofi Tukker’s remix that they really come alive.

I remember this day when I looked in the mirror and I didn’t like what I saw. I just stood there, still, staring at myself. I stared, looking for some semblance of what someone would consider beautiful, and didn’t see it. And I wondered what those people who have called me beautiful saw. Because standing there, still, staring at myself, didn’t show any of that beauty people said they saw. And I didn’t feel it either.

And then I realized, when anyone has attempted to describe any beauty they saw it me, they have never described a stillness. When anyone has ever called me beautiful, I’ve never been just standing there. 

And then I realized that the moments when I’ve felt anywhere close to the way those people have described me, have not been when I was just standing there. Those moments when I’ve felt anywhere close to the way those people have described me, I have been far from still.
