Do You Believe | Poolside
My friend Aaren introduced me to Poolside today and I love her for it. I love her for many reasons actually, but I’ll just focus on this song introduction right right now.
Poolside is described as daytime disco and that description feels oh-so-right.
When I heard this song I was instantly taken back to a sunday afternoon in L.A. where you drink it up at someone’s pool after you’ve had a scandal trashed filled Saturday night. One of those moments where all you can do is smile, dance, and party because life is too fucking awesome to do anything but. The descriptor daytime disco poolside is too damned perfect…but then I listened to the lyrics .
“Do you believe we have what it takes?”
It made me so sad. So sad that there was once a person who if they asked me that question, I’d answer “yes”. So sad that there was a person I once wanted to have one of those amazing poolside Sundays with but never got the chance. So sad that while we were still “together” that person was having that poolside Sunday moment with someone else.
It’s really striking when a song can make you smile one moment…and then have you put your head in your hands the next.
But often times those songs make you smile again.
Because in the end, you just want to experience what they’re sharing. You just want to have another poolside Sunday.
And you will.
And it will be even better than the last.
And maybe you’ll find someone else you’ll want to share it with.
Or maybe you already have and you just don’t know it yet.
