Tribulation | LCD Soundsystem
Today I ran at 10 miles per hour for 60 sec. It was awesome. Fucking awesome. And I don’t think I would have been able to get here without my trainer.
I love Shannon. She just rocks my world.
I met her at Burn, when I would go every morning before school. She always encouraged me to push myself harder and acknowledged me when I did. For someone that made me do so many squat jumps at 7:30 in the morning, I surprisingly didn’t hate seeing her. When I started working full-time, and couldn’t make classes at Burn anymore, I started training with shannon twice a week, and running on my own twice a week. And in the past five months she’s kicked my ass and changed my life.
Hearing Shannon say you can do it as you try to not accidentally hang yourself on a TRX band or hit yourself in the face with a kettle ball, does so much. It makes you believe that you actually can do it. That you actually can do a hundred push ups. Or 112 tricep dips in 2 minutes.
Hearing Shannon say you can do it makes you put all the bullshit aside and focus. Focus on what you’re doing right now. Because at that point what you’re doing right now is the only thing matters. Not what you’ve done before. Not even who you were before. Because at that moment, when she’s pushing you to keep going, who you were before is gone. And who’s left is someone dripping in sweat coming to terms with the fact that they’re stronger than they ever thought they could be. Someone who realizes that this unattainable version of themselves is now a reality.
I’m lucky to have someone in my life who has helped me become the person I’ve hoped I could to be. I’m lucky to have a friend like Shannon.
