Before the Bridge | Future Islands
Oh SXSW.
Another year filled with awesome people, awesome conversations, and awesome parties. I’m leaving feeling exhausted and refreshed. Like I felt when I was a kid coming home from a camping retreat.
The last day was the best. Becky met one of my favorite people from YouTube at the Spotify house where we just hung out, chilled, laughed, and danced to Future Islands. Those boys did not disappoint. I don’t know where Samuel T. Herring goes when he’s performing. But wherever it is, there must be soul, seduction and electricity in the air.
When we left the show, we met the boys at the Four Seasons. On the most magical lawn, with lanterns hanging from the trees and the sun setting in the background. I put this song on to let Josh hear Future Islands for the first time. We just sat there listening while watching the sun set.
I realized I hadn’t heard this in years. I remembered that the last time I heard it, I was dancing with a bottle of…of…who knows…in my hand, trying no to cry when I heard:
And if things had changed
I would have buried you deep in my heart
And if things had stayed the same
I would have carried you as far as the sky
But this time I just sat there. Enjoying the breeze. With my eyes closed and dry. Smiling as I heard
I hope you have what you need
Fucking love this song.
