Marching Band - Surf Mesa, Nitti Gritti
Surf Mesa brought it Sunday afternoon of OSL.
He brought it hard.
That morning, on the bus to Golden Gate, my friend Felicia happened to sit next to me. She was part of my crew at YouTube - work, bars, shows, house parties - that girl was a constant part of my life. We hadn’t seen each other in years. And to randomly sit next to each other was kismet.
We got to the park hella early, walked around and checked out ABSOLUTE and Amber Mark while catching up - talking about the past, present, and future while dancing…and not batting an eye.
When my friends finally showed up, we headed to Surf Mesa. The sun was out but he played like it was 2am. Making all of us sweat it out. Dancing with Felicia to that bass felt like a time machine. It took me back to so many nights dancing in SF with my friends from work.
My friends and I took off to catch the end of Wet Leg. I hugged Felicia goodbye and didn’t see her again the rest of the festival…and probably for a few more years (unless I convinced her to come to Portola). We knew that would be the case so we took it all in - dancing during our goodbye. And then my friends and I danced our way out of the park.
It was a great fucking day. And that was a great fucking moment. And it wouldn’t have been as great with out Surf Mesa’s magic.
