Fireworks - Purple Disco Machine, Moss Kena, The Knocks
This Outside Lands was one to remember.
The headliners didn’t draw me this year - it was the other performances.
This OSL felt like early days Coachella - where you could jump around from stage, to tent, to tent to stage getting tastes of bands you love, bands you like, bands you’ve heard of, and bands you’ve never heard of. Getting lured into watching sets by your friends or by the beats.
That definitely happened this year. ODIE, SPELLLING, Sampa the Great, Washed Out, Lil Uzi Vert, SZA (who killed it despite having her monitor cut out), Robert Glasper, Mac DeMarco, Franc Moody, Jack Harlow, Polo & Pan, ABSOLUTE, Amber Mark, Wet Leg, Dominic Fike - I was like a kid in a candy store…with no parent in sight.
But there definitely were some amazing sets that made me a die hard fan of artists.
The first was Purple Disco Machine on Saturday afternoon.
This man plays THE CUTS. Those tracks classic dance tracks that don’t payed enough on the dance floor. But to dance to those tracks outsides as the sun was shining? Shit. It was like church - it turned the strangers next to me into my OSL family.
I will definitely see he anytime he’s playing near me.
And you should do.
We all could use a little more Purple Disco Machine in our lives
