KCRW Metropolis - August 28, 2021 - Jason Bentley

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some music.
A looooooooong while.

For some reason it’s been hard to share the music I’ve loved over the past couple of months. Partly because life’s been a little crazy. Partly because the tracks I’ve loved recently have been fewer and far between. And partly because it’s just been hard to share.

It’s been hard to write about why certain songs resonate with me. Why they hit a nerve. Cause those nerves are connected to a brain. And that brain is connected to a heart. And sometimes it’s hard to share the thoughts and feelings run rampant between them. Because as often as music makes me feel connected, it can also make me feel alone.

But then there are those music moments that bring me back. Those music momentsthat makes me feel like I’m not alone in the thing that brings me the most joy. Those music moments when I feel like someone out there is right there with me…dancing to tracks that make me smile.

I had that moment last week listening to Jason Bentley’s Metropolis.
Track after track I smiled. Track after track I heard artists I loved (Junior Sanchez, Jake Shears, Cassius). Track after track I heard songs I had planned to write about but couldn’t bring myself to (RÜfÜS DU SOL’s “Alive”, TOKiMONSTA + Channel Tres’ “Naked”, the Vintage Culture & John Summit remix of Sofi Tukker’s “Drinkee”).

By the end of that set I was reminded why I write about music. I was reminded why I share the tracks I love. I was reminded why I started this little music project in the first place.

Thanks Jason Bentley.

Thanks for reminding me that I can still feel connected with people through music.
