Next to Me - RÜFÜS DU SOL

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve shared new music.

I also feel like I write that sentence way too often - Like I’ve turned to that meme “Being and adult is sending emails starting with ‘sorry it’s taken so long for me to respond’ back and forth until you die.”

I could say it’s because work has been busy. I could say it’s because I’ve been traveling. I could say it’s because I’ve been working on other music projects. Or I could say it’s because covid really impacted recording studios and the past year and half has seen a decrease in new music releases (besides remixes).

All of those are true. But I don’t know if any are the reason.

The truth is, it’s been hard to find tracks I want to share. Tracks that are new. Tracks that you won’t hear on the radio. Tracks that pitchfork isn’t writing about.

But more than anything it’s been hard to find tracks that just make me go “yeah”.

But they’re out there.

The tracks that make me stop.

The tracks that make me close my eyes.

That tracks that let me get lost in them.

Tracks that I end up listening to, constantly, for days…or weeks…or months.

Tracks that by the time I hear them, and got lost in them, they’re already everywhere…and make me wonder if I should even share them at all.

Tracks like this one.

But sometimes we gotta say “fuck it” and share what we love…even if everyone’s already heard it.

Because in the end, sharing music is never about sharing what’s new, or cool, or undiscovered, or topical. It’s about sharing what you love…in the hopes that someone else might discover something they love too.
