knuckle tattoo - girlhouse
This track was unexpectedly comforting this morning.
It reminded me of tracks I would listen to in high school. The kind of tracks that would play in the background of our adventures. Roaming around from cafe to cafe on the north side of Chicago. Meeting up with Gretchen at the Ravenswood stop by her house and heading to the pick-me-up for food. Meeting up with Lisa Mack, or Zack, or Angie, or Michelle Kim, or Sylvie anyone else up for hanging out. Checking out the local thrift shops, the salvation army, goodwill, or the army surplus store trying to find the right plaid flannel to match my cherry red eight-hole Doc Martens. Roaming the aisles of Barns and Noble looking for the right book that would show me to the way to person I wanted to be. Sitting down for coffee at Urbis Orbis surrounded by the bohemian intellectual artists trying to get a taste of what my life might look like if I was an adult. Heading to Reckless Record to check out vinyl, but then heading down the block to buy CD’s since I didn’t have a turntable. Maybe checking out a movie at the Music Box if there weren’t any all ages shows or raves that night. Going to Clarks for some late night breakfast. Meeting up with Meghan, or Jim, or Jay, or Jason, or Josh or anyone else down for drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes until the wee hours fo the morning.
All of that seems like a world away.
Especially given where the world is today.
Because today" is hard.
Today is scary.
So I really appreciated this track down memory lane.
I think it will help make the rest of today, and tomorrow feel a little easier.
