I Need You | Octo Octa
This track.
This fucking track.
I don’t know who the fuck Octo Octa is, but they just brought me back.
They made an epic track that feels like the 90’s.
Like I’m back wearing oversized t-shirts. Like I’m back in my phat pants. Like I’m back obsessing over the movie “Hackers”. Like I’m back napping on my Mom’s sofa…with Lauren and Melissa…after sneaking out of boarding school…in Melissa’s “not allowed” car…to drive to a rave…that ended up being at a roller rink on the south-side…where I used to go as a kid in day camp…and danced all night long…and into the morning…and got breakfast…and then went to my house…and told my mom we just left school that morning because we got all of our homework done…and we wanted to hang in the city…but we just needed to take a little nap.
I try not to hate on “EDM” culture today. But there’s nothing like the culture of Chicago raves in the 90’s. The camaraderie you had with your friends, and these random people, that were willing to buy tickets, call a hotline, drive to a random check-point in the middle of nowhere, drive to an unknown address (with no google maps…or fuck, even mapquest), to get to a party that could be shut down by the cops at any point - because it was the only place you could dance to the music you love. Because those were your people.
Thank you Octo Octa.
I needed that.
