There Must Be More Than Blood | Car Seat Headrest
Every time I listen to a Car Seat Headrest song, I get in awe of how amazing their song writing and composition is.
I remember hearing them for the first time at SXSW in 2016.
I met up with my friend, Ian, at one of the venues to check out some bands - and Car Seat Headrest was one of them.
Ian loved them. And he told me I would too. Ian was right.
Ian told me that when you listen to them play, you’ll have this moment when you realize that you’re listening to the same song. Ian was right.
Because their songs start off one way - with one sound and with one feeling. And then they subtly move in a different direction - with a subtle new sound, and a subtle new feeling. And then you’re find ourself back where the song started off - with that original sound but not that original feeling.
I don’t know how they do it. I don’t know how they take the classic song composition and make it both imperceivable and perceivable at the same time. I don’t know how they manage to do something so new with something that’s been around forever.
I don’t know if I’ll ever know. But I do know two things:
1) I fucking love listening to Car Seat Headrest. And 2) I’ll listen to any band Ian loves.
